Celebration of Independence

Our family tradition for many years has been to spend the Fourth of July at the Beach House. Each year depending on life circumstances we have various members of the family present. This year we were sad to be missing Jordan (at the Air Force Academy), Andrew & Lindsey (in Boston), and Chris & Mandi (working). This was Breckin's first year participating in this tradition as we didn't make it last year since he was only a couple weeks old. Breckin really seemed to enjoy the beach this trip, he loved all of the family members to play with and took in all of the different sights and sounds.

Upon arrival Breckin and Great Grandma Luderman watched waves and spied soaring seagulls (Breckin's favorite)!

Then began crawling boot camp! My mom was quite worried about Breckin's lack of crawling and the affect it may have on his future development, so with all of the soft carpet around she taught him how to crawl. Since we are so used to seeing him scoot the crawling looked funny! He also found that it was harder to play with toys and move around at the same time when both hands were needed for crawling.

Another favorite activity of Breckin's was touching the "dalls" hanging from the ceiling.

Down to the beach, the weather was gorgeous!

He loved putting his toes in the sand, quite different than our last visit where he tried everything not to touch it!

Relaxing and enjoying some deep literature, what better ways to pass time at the beach!

Breckin also discovered the joy of climbing the stairs, the railing rungs provided perfect holds for such expeditions.

We enjoyed going down to the harbor for the Saturday Grower's Market.

We used flats for diapering while at the coast since they are easily hand washed and quick to dry. I thought they looked rather pretty out on the line!

Not quite ready to wake up from his nap!

Many competitive games of Kubb were played.

Breckin enjoyed playing catch with his cousins (Zoe here).

And along with learning to crawl he also took his first steps, it kinda scared him!

So patriotic!

Poor quality picture but I love the face!

There were so many shoes to try on, pink is really his color though!

Exploring the hair growing properties of baked beans!

And watching his first fireworks show by the fire, he was a little sleepy but loved watching them. He would point up into the air at them and make noises indicating awe. Maybe next year he can partake in the s'mores!

Daddy discovered a "dall" down on the beach for Breckin to play with.

It was such a great weekend and turned out to be wonderful timing as Rob was able to spend time relaxing and having fun with us before work sent him to Marysville, CA for an undetermined amount of time. He has been working 10 hour shifts, 7 days a week! We miss him but are thankful that he is working.

Breckin's First Birthday Extravaganza

We celebrated Breckin's first birthday on Saturday June 19th. Even though the weather was unseasonably cool, the wind blew away our balloons and we had to change the venue at the last minute, it was a wonderful celebration for our special little boy! Many family and friends joined us for the occasion and Breckin enjoyed being the center of attention. He dove right into his cupcake but was less than thrilled about the ice cream! The pictures really capture the day best...
